Why getting workplace mental health right is a business priority - a welcome addition to the conversation from the World Economic Forum.

By Kate Laird, Head of Training & Administration at MindForward Alliance

I read with interest the recent article from the World Economic Forum, "What Companies Can Do to Improve Workplace Wellbeing – And Why It Matters" . It’s yet another timely reminder that getting workplace mental health right is a business priority. It tells us:

  • Boosting workplace wellbeing could help the global economy grow by $11.7 trillion , according to the World Economic Forum's Thriving Workplaces report.
  • Only a quarter of workers in the US, UK, Canada and beyond are actually happy at work

When organisations invest meaningfully in mental wellbeing - through strong leadership, healthy ways of working, and proactive wellbeing support - they unlock not just healthier employees, but more resilient, innovative, and sustainable businesses.

But only 19% of managers see it as a strategic priority around investing in people and making that the core of their business. Leaders who don’t act will be impacted by poorer performance, a diminished culture, and declining competitive advantage. Our own MindForward Alliance global research tells us that 73% of workers believe it is extremely / very important for employers to prioritise the mental health of the workforce.

There is a lot more that we can do, and we are proud to work closely with the World Wellbeing Movement to accelerate this shared mission and ensure mental health is embedded at the heart of any business’s strategy.
